Expert's Bio

I believe that CPD has the power to transform teachers and institutions.

I currently work at Varndean school in the role of teacher, CPD Lead and coach. I am a trained level 5 ILM coach and an experienced middle manager within schools. I understand the impact coaching can have and know how to devise a whole school strategy to create a culture of coaching within a school. I can help middle managers to improve their performance through non-directive coaching. I can also train leaders and teachers in the craft of coaching so they can then use these skills to improve staff and student performance.

I have delivered coaching training to teachers across schools in Brighton and Hove. This course looked at a variety of coaching models. It asked delegates to consider the power of effective coaching questions, different levels of listening and the importance of non-verbal as well as verbal communication.

In addition to coaching, I also run teacher training courses. I have worked with Vicky Hawking on developing the Expert Teachers Programme. To meet the challenges of the new GCSEs we focus on the development of knowledge, memory and reading. Alongside examining the latest in pedagogy we look at how to develop teachers to become CPD leads in their own departments and schools. I have also run a range of literacy training within schools: focusing on Talk for Writing; developing reading across the curriculum; looking at effective questioning; running lesson studies.
