Andrew Wood is an Assistant Headteacher at Steyning Grammar school with responsibility for developing character education. The school's approach to character has attracted national recognition and as a result Andrew has spoken on the subject at the SSAT and the Boarding School Association conference. In addition to this he gave a keynote speech and ran a workshop on developing optimism in children at the recent West Sussex Emotional Health and Wellbeing conference. He is always well received due to the practical ideas he employs being easily transferable into different contexts without the need for external expertise.

Andrew’s long experience as a Head of Science has developed his skills in using data and employing an evidence based approach to school improvement. He has a keen interest in educational psychology and a life-long commitment to character learning through schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s award. This, combined with his position of leadership in his school has put him in an excellent position to develop approaches to character education which are practical to employ and benefit all students.
